What is meant by a Biblical Self-Evaluation?

This guide explains why it is essential for Christians to engage in self-evaluation.

It is a look at oneself to reflect on the principles and teachings of the Bible and see how we align with them. This is not a worldly evaluation but a look into oneself guided by the Holy Spirit.

We will begin on this  Biblical Self-Evaluation, reviewing various topics and their associated behaviors and emotions. In Colossians 3:2-3, it states, " Focus your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Messiah in God.” (TLV)

As we begin this biblical self-evaluation, we pray for the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts and remove anything that may hinder or obstruct these teachings.

This series will review different topics and their associated behaviors and emotions.

We often examine others and form opinions on their actions.  However, we must be cautious in doing that.  If we haven’t dealt with our own sins, we can’t point out the same sins in others; this is hypocritical. In Matthew 7:1-5, the Bible instructs us not to judge others but to examine ourselves.

As Believers of the Christian faith, we are called to live lives that are pleasing to God. Examining our lives through the lens of Scripture allows us to identify areas where we fall short and seek God’s guidance for improvement.

Through this self-reflection and evaluation, we can foster healthier relationships and glorify God in our interactions.

In 2 Corinthians 13:5, the Bible encourages us to examine ourselves and to test our ways. Self-evaluation helps us identify hidden sins. Once identified, we can confess them to God and seek His forgiveness.  This process allows us to experience the freedom and joy of obeying God.

Remember the words of the apostle Paul- Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. This is not a one-time event, but a continuous process of spiritual growth and maturity.  By embracing self-evaluation, we open ourselves to God's transforming power and become more like Jesus Christ.

So, if you are up for the challenge and desire to enrich and further your relationship with God, let’s take this journey … to be more like Christ.

Peace & Blessings
